Kyle StephensBorn: September 19th 1963 Married: to Pat Odom Stephens with one child: Joshua Kyle Stephens Musical Influences: Lloyd Stephens, Pink Floyd, Tony Rice, Greg Allman (The Allman Brothers band) I have always had "an ear" for music. I can remember as a small child my dad playing the guitar and singing to me and my sisters. When I was
nine-years-old I started taking piano lessons. When I was ten I was in the
school band and played the trumpet and baritone. It was not long after this
my dad started teaching me how to play the guitar and allowed me to attend
jam sessions with him and his friends. I can remember tagging along with him
and hoping for an opportunity to play in a band someday.
While in junior high, I started participating in piano competitions at
Louisiana College. My love for music continued to grow and I felt like
I could never learn enough. After graduating from Pineville High School in 1981, I joined the Navy Reserve where I learned a trade, landed a good job, and started a family. I continued to look for opportunities to play music. I had an opportunity to play with several bands and learned to play the bass along the way. This landed me a spot in a band called "Mariah". After that I started playing guitar in my dad's band, "The Stephens Family", a bluegrass/gospel band. This is where I first met " Mr. Herb" who is now the fiddle player for The Bayou Katz. later joined a band called "bits and pieces" as a keyboard player. The leader of the band, Charles Wilson, unknowingly reminded me of where I started and what my first love really was THE PIANO. I now have the privilege of playing the keyboard with The Bayou Katz. I feel honored to be part of a band made up of such a talented group of men. I believe that the sky is the limit for the Bayou Katz! |
